Community Partners

Each phase of the Ashland Youth Center Project’s development has been made possible through the efforts of a team of dedicated and inspired individuals working together on an impressive scale. These collaborations and partnerships will make this youth center unique and truly a community institution. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all those who were involved.

The Beginning

The process of developing the program for the Ashland Youth Center initiated in 2004 when a group of youth who were part of the Youth Leadership Council (YLC) identified the needs of the community as defined during numerous meetings with other youth and with community residents. An initial role of the Health Care Services Agency was to organize and build on the information and input that had been collected over the years regarding the development of the Youth Center. Potential Youth Center users and partners convened in March of 2010 to begin the process of developing the vision, mission, core values, and core programming for the Youth Center. The following list includes the stakeholders who provided valuable input during this process:

  • Ever Forward Inc.
  • Hayward Area Recreation and Park District
  • Resources for Community Development
  • Alameda County Arts Commission
  • Niroga Institute
  • Alameda County Library
  • Associated Community Associated Community Action Program (ACAP)

Ashland Youth Center Partners

Ross Drulis Cusenbery (RDC) Architecture was hired as a design team to help facilitate the Ashland Youth Center design process. Additionally, The Ashland Youth Center Lead Project Team also gave input. The team included: the Redevelopment Agency, General Services Agency, Health Care Services Agency, and District 4—Supervisor Nate Miley’s Office. There were other agencies that contributed with suggestions and descriptions that helped define the needs assessment for the design. The design of the facility was the result of the cooperative process used in these meetings coupled with the insight gained from site visits to other local youth centers. Below are some of the stakeholders that contributed to this process:

  • Alameda County Deputy Sheriff’s Athletic League (DSAL)
  • La Clinica De La Raza
  • Alameda County Library
  • Beats Rhymes & Life
  • Alameda County Arts Commission
  • Child, Family & Community Services, Inc.
  • Alameda County Child Care Planning Council
  • Youth Uprising
  • RYSE Center
  • Fremont Family Resource Center
  • Alameda County Family Justice Center

As the project evolves, we anticipate that a variety of stakeholders will join.
